Kids at Square

Welcome to Kids at Square!

We believe that children are not just the future, they are the church. Our focus is to help them know they are an integral part of the church and that they have important gifts to offer.

Early Childhood

We take the vows made at baptism seriously at Madison, the Square Campus, and have over 55 adults in teens serving just in the Early Childhood Ministries! We know that it can be challenging for parents to be able to worship while sitting next to little ones and so offer programing for infant through young 5 early olds just about every Sunday of the year (Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends are the only Sunday’s Early Childhood doesn’t meet).

Parents can check kids in at the kiosk in the lobby and then choose to either send their little ones downstairs for the whole service or bring them down after few songs if they want to be able to worship together.

We have an infant room, toddler room, 3 year old room, and 4 and young 5 year old room all run by our amazing volunteers who each serve once a month.

Infants receive one on one or two on one care from loving volunteers.

Toddlers get lots of time to play and make friends and also learn classrooms routines like washing their hands before sitting down at a table for snack. They may also do a time of worship or short Bible story.
In both the 3 and 4/young 5 year old rooms, kids will have time to play followed by singing, a lesson from the Jesus Storybook Bible, craft and snack.

Snack for toddlers – young 5’s is always animal crackers and water. We also have cheerios available for those who are gluten free or who aren’t ready to eat animal crackers.

We are an inclusive ministry. Children of all abilities are welcome in our early childhood ministries.

We also recognize that sometimes, it is better for kids to stay with their parents in the service and so we have an infant feeding room and toddler play area available for parents to use as well.

All of our children’s ministry leaders are background checked and we are also always careful to have multiple leaders in each classroom.

K-5th Grade Children's Church

We believe that kids learn what worship is by worshipping together with their families. We love seeing kids wave flags, dance in the aisles, and use their gifts in worship and so have kindergarten through 5th graders worship in the sanctuary for the first part of the worship service.

During the offering, all kids who are registered will be brought into the multiple purpose room to hear an age appropriate message that fits with the sermon. We love seeing families leave church talking about the same text and themes but from the various perspectives of what the kids learned in children’s church and what the adults learned in the sermon.

After the message, children are split up into groups and go up to various classrooms for a time of review and application, listening to God through journaling, and praying for one another.

We are an inclusive ministry. Children of all abilities are welcome in children’s church and we delight in celebrating the various gifts each child brings as well as in seeing children help one another with their areas of weakness.

At the end of Kid’s church, children can be picked up in the classrooms surrounding the multipurpose room. Classrooms are assigned by grade and will be the same each week.

Finally, because we value kids as important members or the body of Christ, we develop leaders in Children’s Church and frequently invite kids to use their gifts by asking kids to pray for the offering, read scripture, sing, or dance in the worship service as well as lead a special Christmas worship service each year.

Children’s Church meets most weeks of the year but we are off for Thanksgiving break, Christmas break, Spring break, Labor Day weekend, Memorial day weekend, and sometimes on 5th Sundays knowing that these are busy time for our volunteers (many of whom are also parents of young children) and because we believe it is good for kids to get use to being in the worship service as well. Our goal is not to be a totally separate program, but instead to prepare kids to be able to engage in worship serving throughout their whole life and to come to church expecting to hear from God each Sunday morning.

All of our children’s ministry leaders are background checked and we are also always careful to have multiple leaders in each classroom.

Madison Girls & Cadets

Madison Girls is a program for 2nd-5th girls focused on helping them grow in faith and allowing them to build deep discipling relationship with other girls their age and with their leaders. It begins Bible study all together and then the girls divide up by grade level for small groups and snacks and then do rotations of crafts and sports.

Cadets is a program for 2nd-5th boys focused on helping them grow into godly men. The begin all together with some time to just hang out, then do a lessons, snacks, and discussion in small groups. Afterwards they do rotations of crafts and sports.

If you are looking for your child to be able to develop deep friendship with others who can help them grow in their relationship with Christ, we highly encourage you to be part of these programs. Not only will they learn a lot about the Bible and how it applies to their lives, but they will also memorize Bible verses, have lots of fun, and really get to know the leaders and kids in their grade as they share high and lows each week and pray for one another.

We also do a special outing each fall and each spring.

This year’s theme for both ministries is “Rooted in Christ” and the theme verse is:

Colossians 2:6-7: “Therefore, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in him, established in faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”

Ministry to Parents

As we help your children grow in faith, we also know that the primary people who will influence your child’s faith is you, their parents! And so we try to offer some resources to parents as well to support you on your parenting journey.

Madison Mamas

This is a ministry for moms of infant through elementary aged kids. We meet once a month (typically the first Thursday of the month) at 7:30pm at a restaurant, church, or someone’s house for fellowship and to support and encourage one another through the joys and challenges of parenting.  Contact Pastor Kristi to get on the email list serve to receive information about our upcoming outings.

Playdates

Being a parent of infants and toddlers can sometimes feel isolating as it can be hard to get out of the house and so twice a month, we offer Friday morning playdates at church from 9:30-11:00am. Come fellowship with other parents as your kids also get to make friends and become more comfortable at church. Contact Pastor Kristi to get on the email list serve to receive the dates and other updates.
