Dear Madison Family,
The stay at home order of March 2020 coincided with Lent. All of a sudden, Lenten practices of simplifying and doing less weren’t optional, but were thrust upon us. Back then, we were hopeful that it would all end by Easter at which point we would re-gather and sing joyfully with full voice. Little did we know…!
Now, here we are ready to embark on Lent 2021 while still walking the Covid journey. The words we are accustomed to hearing on Ash Wednesday: you are dust and to dust you shall return are reminders of our frailty, that we’re not as strong/invincible as we think we are, and that life here is fleeting.
In many ways, it feels like this entire past year has been one long Ash Wednesday!
We need a place to go with our sighs and tears and laments and sin. On Wednesday, February 17 we will hold several Ash Wednesday services (viaZoom) throughout the day at 10:00 am, 12:00 pm, 3:00 pm, and 7:00 pm. These services will provide space for us to lament and repent and even to ‘plant our tears’ preparing a way for us to be alert throughout Lent to what the Holy Spirit is cultivating in us. There will be opportunity to pick up ashes, potting soil, seeds, and a Lenten devotional either at the Square church office or on Sunday, February 14 at 415 Franklin.
Leaning into Jesus together,
Point Pastor, Madison Church
