Embracing THE GOSPEL FOR our future
Land Acknowledgement
We express gratitude and appreciation to the Indigenous peoples across this continent who have lived in and cared for this land, who are still here, and who will always continue to be present in this place.
For more than five hundred years, Native nations have demonstrated resilience and resistance in the efforts to separate them from their land and ways of life. It is important for us to acknowledge, and also seek to understand, the history that has brought us to reside on this land. As a body of Christ and as members who belong to one another, we are called to seek justice and to reverse the long-standing practices to erase Indigenous people’s history, language, culture, and existence.
Let us pause to consider where our ancestors have intersected with one another and where our stories may be in conflict or in harmony with one another. May we seek to be in harmony today, reconciling as God has called us to be.
Christian Nationalism
Because we believe this is an important discipleship issue, Madison Church has developed a statement regarding Christian nationalism as a guide to help our congregation think, discuss, and live faithfully as followers of Jesus in public life. We recognize that faithful Christians hold a variety of political convictions, and that following Jesus can be expressed through many different forms of civic engagement.
This statement is not about supporting or opposing any political party, but about guarding our allegiance to Christ above all else. That allegiance to Christ is foundational at Madison Church and is captured in our shared values. Together we follow Jesus Christ as Lord above all else. Our hope is in the Kingdom of God—not in any political party, nation, or earthly power. As a multi-ethnic, multi-site, and multi-generational church rooted in the Gospel, we affirm that our primary citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20), and our highest calling is to love God and love our neighbors (Matthew 22:36–40).
